Apply to Maths Beyond Limits

Maths Beyond Limits (MBL) runs three international maths camps every year,
all with the same mathematical focus and structure, but in different locations and at different times of the year.
From 2026, we are updating our admissions process to make it clearer and easier for applicants,
allowing more students to take part.

MBL camps:
MBL Balkans — spring
MBL UK — summer*
MBL Poland — autumn

Each camp has its own admissions process, but the applications are designed to be very similar,
and many materials can be reused between camps within the same MBL year.

*We’re hoping the first MBL UK will take place in 2026! However, it’s not entirely confirmed yet and may launch in 2027.

Changes coming in 2026 + FAQ

What is changing?

Participation will usually be limited to one camp per MBL year.
The Qualifying Quiz will be partially reusable across camps in the same MBL year.
Alumni admissions will be handled jointly across all camps.

These changes are meant to:
Allow more students to attend MBL.
Reduce unnecessary duplicate work for applicants.
Make the overall process clearer and more predictable.

Can I apply to multiple camps as a new participant?
Or if I attend one camp, can I still apply later in the same MBL year?

Yes. If you apply to a camp as a new participant, there are two possible situations.

First, if you are admitted and attend that camp, you will then be considered an alumni for the remainder of the same MBL year.
This means that you may apply to one of the later camps in that year through the alumni process,
typically in the additional (supplemental) application round, subject to availability.

Second, if you are not admitted to the first camp you apply to, you may apply again to a later camp in the same MBL year as a new participant.
In this case, you can reuse a large part of your application: the exploratory problems in the Qualifying Quiz and the Applicant Questionnaire remain the same throughout the year, so you do not need to redo them, and you are welcome to update or improve them, as well as any other parts of your application, before reapplying. Only the olympiad-style problems will be different.

In both cases, the process is designed to minimise duplicate work for applicants while still allowing multiple chances to apply.

Are exceptions to the one-camp-per-year rule possible?

In special circumstances, yes. But we do not expect this to be common – exceptions will be considered case by case.

If I’m rejected once, can I apply again?

Yes. Decisions are released before the next admissions cycle, so you are welcome to apply again and improve your application.

Can I run a mathematical class if I’ve never been to MBL before?

In general, the chance to run a Mathematical Class as a semi-tutor is reserved for alumni
who are already familiar with the MBL structure and format.

If you are a first-time applicant and are very interested in running a class, this does not automatically disqualify you,
but it is not the standard path. If you feel strongly about this, you are welcome to email us explaining:

What you would like to teach?
Why you think it would be a good fit for MBL?
Why you feel ready to take on this role without having attended before?

We may consider such requests on a case-by-case basis, but this will be the exception rather than the rule.
